Our River Stories: Margy Spedding
Last but one in the series! Margy Spedding shares with us her connection to the River Tyne right at this very moment!
“Our River Stories: My husband Iain, “Jock” to his team, works on the river. He is a Fire Brigade Watch Manager on the Green Watch at Foxtrot (Byker to us civvies). The watch is responsible for water rescue. Iain is a Coxswain on the boat and he and the crew are all trained in swift water rescue. Iain regularly goes into The Water of Tyne for training, madness I know but necessary. There are over 300 emergency calls to incidents on the river Tyne, with Byker one of the busiest stations in Tyne and Wear. I’m very proud of the work they do and look at the River now with perhaps more awe and deep respect.
