What an amazing concert focusing on mental health. Sing United sounded amazing and took us on an emotional journey exploring mental health issues. How fantastic to tackle such tricky issues head on and with such sensitivity. I was particularly humbled by the narration of posts from choir members who were generous enough to share their own deeply personal experiences to help connect with the audience and get the message across that everybody hurts sometimes. The music is amazing, the fundraising is amazing, the message is amazing. The green heart army are amazing 💚read more

What a truly moving and inspiring concert "This land is mine" had it all, from sad songs of pit disasters to the join in favourite "the collier lad". The choir were amazing with backing from an accomplished group of musicians and the keyboard player and musical director Mark Deeks, and not forgetting the fantastic signer, who was a show on his own. As an extra treat we had a song, about his miner grandfather, from Gareth, what a great voice. A very enjoyable night. ❤️👍👍👍❤️👏👏👏read more

It is obviously a fantastic end to a term putting on a concert but Sing United is so much more than that. During the term our friendships strengthen with songs that have us all singing with real heart and passion. Getting to share this in many other venues is also special and offers the opportunity to spread our enthusiasm for singing to many more than just the wonderful 400 strong audience that support us at The People’s Theatre. It is little wonder to me that I am “hooked” ! The feel good factor of being part of Sing United can be measured by the atmosphere in the rehearsal room, the online daily chats and the warm enthusiastic encouragement given my Team Sing United and, as already mention by other reviewers, - the faces of the choir when performing. Onward and upward ... next term here we come!read more

Spending an evening watching and listening to Sing United is about as uplifting as any experience can be. The choir and it’s interpretation and choice of songs leaves the audience in a state of complete bliss and fulfilment. The look of joy on the faces of every choir member shows how important the music and message is to them and if music can help to make the world a better place , then Sing United would be the choir to do it.read more

What a FANTASTIC show Power To The People was on Sunday night. As a choir member myself, I can fully appreciate the amount of hard work that was put in to delivering such a STRONG, powerful and faultless performance. We were sat right up the back but it didn’t matter, the sound was incredible and the diction was rehearsed to perfection and heard every single word. So very impressed at your storytelling to the point I was moved to tears. Thank you for such a wonderful night. I Can’t wait for your next show. Xread more

I can’t think of a better community choir to be part of. The generosity of spirit of people, positive & uplifting vibe & best of all the core values underpinning Mark Deek’s choice of music for us to sing all combine to just lift your spirits no matter what stress or worries you are encountering. Mark really motivates us all & strives to get the best out of us at rehearsals each week, all building up to the final cracking performance on the night! An added bonus is learning about music you might never have paid much attention to, or know little about, then learning the words & stories behind the songs really starts to resonate. A really special experience, so glad I joined.read more

Sing United is a community choir led by Mark Deeks. Except it's SO much more than that....it's a group of friends, old and new, working together to create the most fantastic performance. It's about the laughs in the practice sessions to the tears at the final show! It's about raising money for some incredible local charities. It's about singing songs with meaning and a message arranged by Mark. It's about that feel good factor you get from singing (should be in the NHS to be honest haha) and it's about just having a thoroughly good time with lovely people. This choir is for all.....and you dont need any singing experience at all and if you join you wont regret it!read more

I love being a member of this choir and it just gets better and better. It's success comes from it's founder Mark Deeks who had a vision of what he wanted and he has certainly found the true meaning of community singing from raising money to support charities in the region to offering support by volunteering to help .This term culminated in a truly emotional concert that was both sad and funny and loved by both the choir members and the wonderful, supportive audience who came to watch.

I was lucky enough to grab a couple of tickets for the Power to the People concert at The Peoples Theatre last night before it sold out. I knew it would be good but I was blown away! Powerful alright! Looked and sounded amazing. I hear they have done some Community Fundraising for The Peoples Kitchen in Newcastle and the POWER of the SING UNITED PEOPLE blew all expectations out of the water and incredibly have raised several Thousand Pounds for this wonderful local charity. You should all be extremely proud of yourselves. You all looked like you had the best time too! Brilliant!

I have felt privileged this term to be part of the ‘green heart army’. We are more than a singing group. We are a community. We sing together, have an awesome time at rehearsals and we make a difference. We are friends and we make friends. We learn together and we succeed together. A wonderful experience made possible by the musical genius and vision of Mark Deeks.

I have loved being part of Sing United this term. The music we've been learning has been challenging at times but always rewarding. Rehearsals are fun and a great way to meet like-minded people. Singing at the concert at the People's Theatre on 17th November was uplifting, emotional and totally brilliant! See you next term!

I joined Sing United as I love the idea of singing with a message , singing with like minded people and supporting local charities. The musical arrangements are so wonderful to sing and for an Alto they are not all on one note! I sing to bolster my resilience and to top up my well-being it really does help you to forget the day - Sing United is a great way to do this.

I’m thoroughly enjoying being part of Sing United. I’ve always sung in choirs but this has such a different feel because of the regional links and the messages conveyed by the music. Sing United has become a community with a heart and I look forward to the weekly rehearsals very much indeed. ?

I joined Sing United because I enjoy singing and learning about different genres of music. They are a great group of people and rehearsals are such fun. It’s a fabulous way to unwind after a day at work! Mark’s enthusiasm for music is infectious, his knowledge is immense and he also has a good line in Geordie patter.....

I've found it such a positive experience to be a member of the Sing United community choir. Rehearsals are really well organised with no detail overlooked - and such fun too! I've known Mark Deeks for many years; he really cares about our experience as singers and his musical arrangements (which go way beyond choral music) are second to none. Great experience - if you enjoy singing, you'll love this!

Community singing in Newcastle never felt so good! More than 120 singers not just singing but supporting their local community and charities as well. Very proud to work with them and can't wait to see what they achieve.

Sing United is a new and exciting community choir in the North East of England led by Mark Deeks. It’s a joy to sing and Mark’s boundless enthusiasm for what he does permeates every rehearsal. I call the rehearsals my “holiday in the week” because while you are there you forget the stress and troubles of everyday life.
