Newcastle West End Foodbank: The Story so far…
In April 2021, just after restrictions in the UK started to ease, we launched another Sing United virtual term. Fingers crossed that it would be virtual for the final time!
‘We Are Family’ has been the theme, with family and friendship at the heart of it. The songs have felt so poignant as we’ve all slowly but surely been able to start seeing more of our loved ones again.
The Sing United Foundation…
As before our singers arranged their own fundraising at the same time as looking after both their physical and mental health. This has been so important during this time more than ever.
This challenge, along with generous donations and fundraising from our singers and an online Pamper night, the donations are still coming in…
Our current fundraising total sits at £1,003!!!
Huge efforts from everyone once again but as we bring the term to a close we’re not going to stop there. The Green Heart Army are going to continue their fundraising and support for the foodbank over the summer with a range of activities to keep us all together and do so much good.
What else can we do to help?
At Newcastle West End Food Bank their goal is to reduce poverty and prevent hunger in our community. Right now they need us.
The West End FoodBank feeds over 1,000 people per week in normal times yet that has risen exponentially increasing demand by 69% during the pandemic in the last year. They’ve also expanded into the East End of Newcastle in 2021 to feed another 600+ people.
A £5 donation feeds a local family for a week.
So you can see how far our fundraising really will go. Thank you so much for all your generosity, and if you or anyone you know would still like to donate they can do so here:
Account Name: Sing United Foundation
Sort code: 55-81-19
A/c no: 86933760
In addition to cash donations, the foodbank always welcome donations of basic food items and toiletries (including feminine hygiene products) for emergency parcels. Take a look at this short video…
If you’d be willing to collect donations from singers in your local area and drop them at the Foodbank Centre at some point over the summer, can you let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org and we can co-ordinate.
So we’d encourage you to have a look in your cupboards and see whether you have anything you would be willing to donate to the foodbank. We’d love some of us to be able to make trips to the Foodbank Centre on Benwell Lane with donations from Sing United.
We have a few ideas for a possible Summer Quiz, Summer Sing-Along and we have kind offers for a few raffle items. If you have any suggestions to add into the mix then we’d love to hear from you!
We so appreciate each and every one of you for your involvement and enthusiasm for our fundraising, We absolutely couldn’t do it without you.
